Discover the culture and diversity of Belize through an amazing immersive experience. This eight-day study abroad program provides students with the opportunity to understand how the people of Belize view the world and use culture and religion to inform every day life. Students will have the opportunity to visit some of Belize’s most famous and sacred sites. From the anthropological and sacred archeological sites of the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave (shown above) and Caracol to the small Island of Caye Calker, students will be immersed in an experience that will expand their understanding of the Belizean culture and gain an appreciation for specific political, social, economic, and religious practices that contribute to healthy family development. There will be an opportunity to provide service to a local school, as well as to become acquainted with Mayan, Garifuna, German-speaking Mennonite, and Mestizo culture. The students will learn by interacting with wonderful individuals and families from these diverse and rich cultures; these experiences and exposure to different cultures will help students broaden their understanding of how healthy families interact around the world.
